Purchase or purchases?

Hi Teachers,

I have found this sentece in one of my books.

An eye scan will identify their eyes and put their purchase on their credit card.

Shouldn't it be?

An eye scan will identify their eyes and put their purchases on their credit card.

Thanks in advance

Both are correct. It is a matter of how many things they purchase. In the singlular it sounds better in this factual form, as really they it means that one transaction takes place.

Hi, Clive,

Thank you for your reply.

Better, and more accurate, is eg 'An eye scan will identify the customer. . . '

You are right. It is quite obvious that an eye scan identify eyes! But this time I can't change it. There's a CD that comes along with the article that includes that sentence.
