Punished for being good

Hi

There is an expression in my language whose literal translation would be something like this.

punished for being good

or

punished for having a good heart

This expression is used when someone does something good and pays heavily for it. For example, you stop your car to help a family in distress and end up getting robbed by them. You give a loan to a friend and never get it back, etc.

Is there any fixed/set phrase or saying that native speakers use at a time like this? What about these? Are these natural?

  1. I am being punished for being good.
  2. I am being punished for my good actions.
  3. My goodness became my penance.
  4. My virtue became my vice.

Thanks,

Tom
