Punctuation question

Hi,

Is the punctuation in the following sentence correct?

Given the circumstance, we have a number of options, 1. we can go back 2. we can continue on the same path 3. we can take detour. I prefer the second option.

Given the circumstances ( It's usually plural, even if there's only one ) , we have three options : (1) we can go back , (2) we can continue on the same path , or (3) we can take a detour. I prefer the second option.
