I never know when to put a comma before so, and and but.
1) He turned out to be a tyrant so he got replaced by Mary II (James’ daughter) and her husband William of Orange.
Should there be a comma before so he got replaced by and then before and her husband... ? May I know why or why not?
2) That was in 1689. Britain became a constitutional monarchy and almost all executive power, including powers over taxation, were given to parliament.
Should there be a comma before and almost...? May I know why or why not?
3) The monarch basically was left as a figurehead. But in fact the final step of the process took place in 1721.
Can we start a sentence with but?
