Hi, I am having a touch of trouble with punctuating quotes. Could someone please shed a little light on the following and tell me if they are correct in terms of the full stop at the end?
1. Although many people smoke "many have tried to give up in recent years" (Smith 2009).
2. This opinion is clear: "They simply don't want to try and give up" (Smith 2009).
3. This opinion is clear: "They simply don't want to try and give up" (ibid. 234).
4. The idea was rejected by the author as "a waste of time".
Number 4 is the one that I am most unclear about. Any help would be great. Thank you!

I must say that the last one (number 4) for me seems very od
