Punctuation help?

Hi, everyone.

Could you help me punctuate this sentence correctly? Could you name the clauses being used in the sentence?

The sympathy we have for one another; the time when somone is there for us, compels us to say these two words.

Thanks!

The sentence does not make sense to me, so I can't punctuate it, but the semicolon is not called for. You probably want a comma. Aside from a few technical uses, a semicolon only joins two independent clauses where the second expands on the first.
