Punctuation 100% correct below?

Dr Smith said, "This particular ailment affects 25-35 year old men."

The chief executed officer said, "We need at least a 50% a year increase in sales for the next three years."

Then, technically, you'd need the hanging (suspensive) hyphen after '25'. And that looks ugly. '25-35 year old men' is much easier to read.

I think that clarity and the need for reader-friendly text should trump rigid adherence to rules.
