"I drove to the lake with my sister and several of her friends soon joined us. To make it correct why does a comma go before the and?
Is "several of her friends soon joined us there" a complete sentence?
subject is friends right? and verb is joined. if the subject follow a coordinating conjunction, a comma comes before it. But the word several is right after it so a comma should follow?

Hi,
Yes, place a comma before and. It is used to join the two independent clauses in your sentence.
