Punctuating the content in quotes

Hi. Please help. Does a content in quotes as in something that was spoken by a certain person follow the same punctuation rules as in other forms of writing, like writing statements such as "I go home at 5 p.m."?

I think I saw in the Bible where two short clauses were connected with a comma. Is that correct? I think punctuation can be difficult when long sentences are involved in writing something someone has said in quotes. Any help from you for my questions would be appreciated.

Yes (or probably), but I am not clear on what rules you allude to—I don't see which ones might worry you in "I go home at 5 p.m."
