Punctuating Quotes

Is the period placed correctly:

I was told my writing was only "acceptable."

I read this sentence on some blog, and feel that since this is not a actually a dialogue, the period must come after the quotes; as,

I was told my writing was only "acceptable".

What say?

You're right. The period should be outsied the quotation marks.

According to AP Style, a period should ALWAYS be put inside the quotes.

Who is AP?

In BrE, it always goes outside the quotes.
Many regular EF members choose this style, even as US residents.

Of course whichever style you choose, there are often special cases.
