Puncher

Hi.
What do we call a device which creates a hole in sheets? Is it punch or puncher or both?
Dictionaries suggest punch as the right word for it, but I wonder if it is a mistake to use puncher instead.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers

If yes, the device is called a 'paper punch.'

Thank you very much for your reponse.
I know the right word is punch, I am living in the US and use it everyday.
Maybe I have asked my question in the wrong way. I have heard people use puncher instead of punch. And puncher is not in dictionaries with that meaning.
I wonder if that's a common mistake or it is possible to use puncher referring to punch.
Thanks for your time a

I've always heard the term "paper punch", but it does not surprise me that people say "paper puncher."
People say a lot of things that are incorrect, all the time. Frankly, if it's not in your dictionaries and if Staples calls the device a paper punch, then that's good enough for me. It all depends upon whether or not you want to speak correctly or use colloquial language. It's up to you

We call it a hole-punch.

Because it punches holes in paper!

According to OED and AHD, 'punch' and 'puncher' are synonymous in that sense, and both can be used formally.
