What is the noun for the adjective pulmonary? For example the noun for the adjective "respiratory" is "respiration". What about for pulmonary?

There really isn't a directly related noun.

'Pulmonary' just means 'relating to the lungs'.

Hello there,

This word (pulmonary / pulmonic) is commonly used in the world of medicine. For example, we would preferably say "pulmonary diseases" instead of "lung diseases" (I am not very sure what the reason behind this preference is). Probably, it would be easier for doctors to create hybrid words for any diseases?

Actually, there are other medical terms that you won't find the exact nouns for those adjectives. This is simply because most of these words (i.e. medical roots, suffixes and prefixes) are originated from the Greek or Latin languages. For instance (just to name a few):

pulmonary / pulmonic =

meaning : of or relating to lungs
origin from : pulmonarius
example : pulmonic sounds (created by the lungs) / pulmonary vein

phrenic =

meaning : of or relating to the diaphragm
origin from : phrénique / phrUn, phren-
example : phrenic nerve

splanchnic =

meaning : of or relating to the viscera or internal organs, especially those of the abdomen
origin from : splanchnicus / splankhnikos / splankhna
example : splanchnic nerves
