Vocabulary

pull out

You got to pull this out for your family. (spoken by the TV show, Family Feud, host)

1. Does 'pull out' mean help, help out etc.?

2. Is it a common usage?

Thanks,

Withdraw, lose interest, .... Your example needs more context to determine from what the person is requested to pull out, withdraw, stop doing it, .... And it is common.

I think that from the context it means something along the lines of 'pull this out of the hat' (imagine a magician pulling out a rabbit) - to put in a great effort, to achieve a miracle!

Hi Nona,

"imagine a magician pulling out a rabbit"

Very intersting.

Thank you for the reply.

It seems very close, in this context, to "pull this off" – i.e. "succeed after some effort".
