pull of more than 20 million dollars vs pull more than 20 million dollars.

I read the underlined in the script below.
then I have felt it unnatural or a little bit strange because of "of"
I can't see why "of" should be written in it because I think the sentence grammatical without "of" .

What's the difference of meaning between #1 and #2?
My opinion is #2 means "to select(=pull) just only cash and check of 20 millon on the other hand #1 means " to gather(=pull) real estate, valuable things included cash and check", am I right?

# 1- to pull of more than 20 million dollars.
#2 - to pull more than 20 million dollars.

I'd like you to add the original meaning and usage of preposition "of".

Thanks for your reading.

-------The script goes like:

So, the question is "What do you think about most of the time?" Well, in the last 25 years,
big companies have spent many millions of dollars searching for the answer to this question.
# Several companies, some years ago,  put together to pull of more than 20 million dollars.
And what they wanted to do was discover  "What top sales people think about most of the time,
top business people, top entrepreneurs."
Because if they were going to hire sales people or business people,  they wanted to have a profile that will help them make better hiring decisions.

ljswaveI'm going to attach the voice of the sentence for my question.
That helps. It is as I suspected: "Several companies, some years ago, put together a pool of more than 20 million dollars."
