Pull down vs. tear down?

Hi,
I find these two verbs to be rather interchangeable. Or am I wrong?

I also would like to know if I can use both tear and pull down in the following sentence:
"The building was pull/torn down."

Thanks.

If something is 'pulled down', it's usually thought of as a controlled action- someone is doing purposefully, like: "She pulled down the tablecloth on one side to even it out".
If you 'tear down' something, usually you mean it in a more violent and emotional way, like: "He tore down the picture of his ex-girlfriend from the wall".
If you're talking about buildings, you probably want to go
