"He pulled a news story from a news website."

Does it mean he obtained a new story from the website or that he removed the story from the web?

Sentences like this one never occur in isolation. You wouldn't just go up to someone and say that sentence and not say anything else. No article in a newspaper or on the internet would consist only of that one sentence. So I assume the example would appear as just one sentence among many others in a complete story. That might provide enough context to allow us to know the real meaning. After
