Public policy is what the government, particularly the President and the Congress, chooses to do in response to the major opinion of the public to solve a problem to protect citizens’ right and benefits. A wide range of issues that remain debated and revisited several times include healthcare, drug abusing, gun control, tuition, etc. The first stage of the public policy process is agenda setting or identifying the problem through some severe events or crisis and the media including the videos, watchdogs, gatekeepers. The policy is then formulated to fix the problem after debating and compromising between political parties. A political party can decide public policy is chosen by people. In other words, the public helps shape public policy by voting, expressing concerns, protesting and engaging in policy making of the senates. Public policy can be changed and revised continuously due to different opinions and issues arose. Although the public policy is determined by the federal government, states sometimes disagree and struggle to follow and make sure it will benefit the residents. Public policy making can be influenced by lobbyists either good things such as experts in an issue can help fix the solution fast but at the same time, the money can sometimes interfere with the process. The agency drafts the procedure and makes a final decision on developing a solution. Policies need to be monitored and evaluated to ensure they are implemented properly and effectively. This is done by collecting public opinion, analyzing resources effectively, and renewing the outdated policy.
