Psychological hurdles?

Hi! everyone.
Could you tell my whether these words fit in the scenario below?
--A person is planning to skydive next month, but people surrounding him make fun of him and discourage him by saying he will definitely hurt himself or get electrocuted as he is weak, but when the time comes he he gets over all his psychological hurdles and pull it off victoriously.
Is "psychological hurdles" correct here? What could be the suitable word?
Thanks!
