hey, folks!
What does provided and providing mean??
0
Hi,

TimesSelect is a service from The New York Times providing exclusive online access to Op-Ed columnists.

Can I change 'providing' to 'provided'?

If not, why? Because the word indicates an action, just as when we say 'I saw a man walking down th street'.

So provided and providing are interchangeble?

Hi,

So provided and providing are interchangeble?

Yes, if the intended meaning is 'specifying a condition'. This was not the case in your original example about TimeSelect.

Best wishes, Clive
