Having spent the last few months towards the phrases & its origin, in particular, I came across good number of Proverbs, along with it, however, I wonder if anyone can provide me with the possible interpretation (or indeed, interpretations, if it could mean more than just one thing), of the following Proverbs.
- A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle
- A watched kettle/pot never boils (but unwatched kettle over boils)
- Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies OR Ask no questions and hear no lies
- April showers bring May flowers
- A creaking door/gate hangs long/longest
- Advice when most needed is least heeded.
- A good man in an evil society seems the greatest villain of all
- A good surgeon has an eagle's eye, a lion's heart, and a lady's hand
- A guilty conscience needs no accuser
- A lie can be halfway around the world before the truth gets its boots on
- All cats love fish but hate to get their paws wet
- All flowers are not in one garland
- All frills and no knickers
- Bread is the staff of life
- Bitter pills may have blessed effects
- Better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
- Beer before liquor, you'll never be sicker, but liquor before beer and you're in the clear
