Proverb translation, is it sounds correct...

I am not a native speaker... and shall be very greatful if You will check this small paragraph...

“It is better to get lost with your people,
rather to find the way alone”
Kazakh Proverb
(That is my personal translation; is it sounds ok? )
In my opinion, the above proverb is an excellent reflection on the true meaning of public service. Even though the desk of a “post-soviet” public administrator is likely to be filled by Machiavellian-type of literature, I still believe that if you are involved in public sphere it is essential to sacrifice your time and efforts for the sake of all living in your country.
