Protest a decision and Protest against a decision

Hi

Could you please tell me the difference between:

Protest against something (a decision, a new law, etc)
Protest something (a decision, a new law, etc)

Thanks,

Tom

As far as I know there is no difference in meaning. However "protest something", in the sense you are talking about, is not used in BrE. We always say "protest against".
