prostelatize

Is 'prostelatize' really a word? I looked in online dictionaries and don't find it but I do find it in a google search (so others seem to think it is a word too - even if the official word folks don't).

I want to express the idea of espousing and declaring personally held beliefs (particularly with the goal of convincing others to believe them too). One word I did find was evangelize, but, I don't want to use 'evangelize' because it seems limited to Christianity.

Thank you for your thoughts!

By any chance did you mean this word:

proselytize

as the definition does fit the one that you described. (Dictionary.com)

I believed, as did you, that it was spelled and spoken as you wrote the word. I suspect we have heard it spoken incorrectly.

0 According to both the Cambridge Dictionary and Oxford Dictionary, the word proselytize is "Disapproving". You may need to carefully consider if it is appropriate to use it on yourself.01blockquote
