PROS AND CONS OF FREELY SHARING INFORMATION?

Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

The discussions about sharing information, beyond dispute, cannot be regarded as new, but a good few people, especially scientists, business, and professors, still express their deep concern about this issue. To make it clearer, one still has yet to come to an agreement on whether or not information should be shared freely.

In the first place, those who choose to be all for the view of publicizing as much information as possible, for definite, can provide proofs, but the following two prove to be fairly common. To my knowledge and too many others’, it is logical to believe that having known about the information, people do not have to spend a huge sum of money on doing research, which amounts to the investing in other matters related to their projects. One further mere fact is that people can gain more knowledge about the field, and, in turn, they can lend a hand to develop that area.

Although there are several benefits when sharing information freely, there on some drawbacks that should be taken into consideration. The first objection is that companies, in terms of business field, usually compete against each other, so they can find it difficult to grab customers’ attention if all their confidential documentation is publicized. Another point worth bringing into the equation is that some individuals may copy the work from others and take all the credits, which can result in unfairness within the society.

On balance, there are pluses and minuses when freely publicizing all the information in different areas. Therefore, it is my recommendation that people should think twice before sharing the information.
