Propped up

Hi

What shape is propped up exactly? Is it like bending of hard situatin or something like lolling?

"As Sally Stein points out, there is a recurrence in Lang's photography of a body that leans, a body that is propped up. Many of her photographs show 'bodies bent out of shape by labour'..."

Something is propped up if it receives support to remain in position, and without that support, it would fall down. If you tilt a picture against the wall, it would fall down without the walls support, unable to balance on its one edge. It's also used metaphorically, to mean someone retains a position of authority or power only though the (perhaps unseen) support of others.
