Proportion of population aged 65 and over

The given line chart demonstrates how many people aged 65 and over in three different nations namely Japan, Sweden and USA in the period between 1940 and 2040. In general, the percentage of people aged 65 and over in the three countries will increase significantly from 2030 to 2040. In addition, the proportion of citizens in Japan aged 65 and older has been predicted will the highest in the total in 2040.
As we can see from the chart, the percentage of people senior in America and Sweden experienced a gradual increase from 1940 to 1980, then a slight diminish in the next year. However, this target for the United States continued to drop steadily until 2020 while the figure for that of Sweden increased remarkably from the middle of 1980 to 2040 before a sudden fall in 2030.
By contrast, the proportion of people in Japan over 65 years old diminished significantly from 1960 and remain unchanged until the middle of 1980. In the following year, this target was seen an upward trend and has been predicted to reach a peak of approximately 30%
