Proper subjunctive?

Hello,

"Even if there were someone who would go that far for a complete stranger, he could only be a fool."

Is this proper subjunctive? It looks like it to me, but I admit I'd be more certain had it read "Even if someone were to go that far."

Hi. Falconer Is this proper subjunctive? Yes, you can say that.

  • Yes, you can say that.
  • But your second thought is judicious and I would say "if someone were to" sounds better if talking about subjunctive.
