Proper Punctuation of a "From... to..." Construction?

How would I properly punctuate this sentence? Do I need an em dash, perhaps? This version just seems confusing to me!

From teaching adult immigrants English, to chairing the latest Gay-Straight Alliance meeting, the scope of my activities and passions can’t be pigeonholed.

Also, does the darn period go inside or outside in this sentence?

I decided to forgo what I thought was my chance at “success.”

Actually, I don't personally see a problem with the punctuation of this. Some people might argue that the first comma is superfluous.

  • Technically that may be true, but I'm all for pragmatism where commas are concerned: if a comma makes a sentence easier to parse then stick one in!
