Which is proper grammer? or are both ways correct? Please explain you response.

2. The unknown subject #1 exited the building and walked northbound.

'Bound' and 'walked' overlap in meaning, so 'exited the building and walked north '. Otherwise, either will work unless this is the first mention of the unknown subject, in which case, only #1 will do.
