Proper equivalents to "imbecilize" , "imbecilization"

I know these are not correct forms, but I'd like some equivalents(synonyms)

It is time, in a present imbecilization of society, to declare it a useful and needed word. Idiotization seems too strong. Stupidization not "proper" either. Dumbing down is two words, and probably not proper either. So imbecilization should be approved (by the language pedants). High time!
