Prop word

Hey native speakers! I'm a little uncertain with regards to the prop word 'one'. Which of the phrases is correct (the situation could be people watching in town etc.)

a) ... the guy over there. - Which one do you mean? Oh, that one!

b) ... the guy over there. - Which one do you mean? Oh, this one!

Since there is distance involved, the correct choice is 'a'... the guy over there. - Which one do you mean? Oh, that one!

'Over there' means that the subject of your discussion is not in close proximity to you.
