It is often thought that the increase in juvenile crime can be attributed to violence in the media. What do you think is the reason for a growth in the rate of juvenile crime? What solutions can you offer to deal with this situation?

The current media has focussed extensively on action movies which induce violence. Some are against this idea that the media has caused an increase in youth crime. However, I agree that the media especially television and the cinema are generally responsible for the violent behaviour of the young people. This can be addressed if the media broadcast more educational programs.

To start with, the majority of Hollywood movies have been concentrating in action movies which demonstrate violent behaviour. Although, the negative character in these kinds of movies will be imprisoned or executed by authorities, the colourful and attractive scenes, which are created in these movies, motivates the violent and aggressive characteristics. The media has turned to these genres to attract more audiences which has brought about increasing in aggressive behaviour among the youth. In addition, video games are also contributed to the increase in crime rates of the young people. Most of these video games are based on the violence and action stories which involves killing of others to be successful in these games. Finally, some rock music can also induce the next generation to showcase some strange and brutal behaviour to get the attention of their peers.

To address the aggressive behaviour which the media is advertised, the most useful method is to air more educated programs. It is essential to work more on documentaries so they become more attractive and interesting for the adolescents. Engaging the youth more in extra-curriculum activities, like sports and charity program, can also shift their attention from the Hollywood movies to useful activities helping them for their future life. Furthermore, the media can increase the awareness of their audiences of the consequences of committing crimes like imprisonment. This leads to witnessing less crime rates among the young people.

In conclusion, the media and the video games are responsible for their program as the youth are very impressionable and will copy the exact aggressive behaviour in movies or games to be in centre of attention. Increasing educational programs and the awareness of adolescent can shift the attention of the young people from the violent movies.
