Hi teachers, please help me correct my article if there are any mistakes. Thanks!
It is often thought that the increase in juvenile crime can be attributed to violence in the media. What do you think is the reason for a growth in the rate of juvenile crime? What solutions can you offer to deal with this situation?
Last week, a mother posted an article on a social medium, which has aroused great social concerns and attracted public attention nationwide. The mother accused her son’s primary school of ignoring school bullying. Two school boys hurled a bucket of feces over her son’s head, but the teacher regarded such appalling behavior as a joke.
This article has been re-posted and shared for thousands of times in just one day, and a lot of people expressed their anger and compassion in the comments area, some people even wrote down their similar experience.
The above story is just the tip of the iceberg of school bullying cases in China. The China Youth &Children Research Center conducted a survey in 2015; the results show that over 32% of 6,000 primary and middle school students questioned were bullied occasionally, while about 6% were constantly bullied by older students.
The most famous school bullying case happened last year, several Chinese students who studied in the USA, kidnapped and cruelly humiliated a classmate, and forced the victim to keep the secret.
They did not seem to be regretted or repent on the court because they thought they would be acquitted of a charge very soon. However, the result was quite beyond their expectation—two masterminds were condemned life imprisonment, others were given prison terms from 3 to 13 years.
Their parents set out to America immediately and prepared to bribe the officers as well as the witness, but they were arrested for bribery finally.
So, what on earth gets young people involved in school bullying actually?
It is not hard to find that instead of confessing to their crime, some Chinese people would rather bribe those who have privilege, and this makes youngsters believe that they do not need to take responsibilities for their behaviors as long as they have money.
Furthermore, as a saying goes: The child's intelligence and ignorance, gains and losses and merits and demerits all implicate the father. Children nowadays are highly indulged and protected by their neurotic parents who make their children only care about themselves.
Additionally, we can never overlook the contribution of the media. With the development of the technology, almost everyone has a computer which with access to the internet. The violent content can easily influence the young people through all kinds of media, such as books, online games, videos, movies, or even advertisements.
From my point of view, it is high time that all of us took actions to fight against school bullying. Firstly, parents should not spoil their children and they also need to set a good sample not to use swear words and violence at any time.
Secondly, teachers are supposed to notice the behaviors of their students during school time and solve the problems between the students immediately. I think it would be advisable for schools to provide some students with psychological consultants.
Lastly, government need to legislate against violence content appear in the online games or other media.
