When it comes to people’s opinions about why people attend university, there are always a variety of points of view to be considered because of its complexity.
From my point of view, I think people attend university for three main reasons.
The first reason has to do with knowledge. We can choose the majors we like in university. Universities can offer various teaching resources as well as facilities which are beneficial to widening students’ understanding and increasing their intellectual ability.
The second reason is related to career. It goes without saying that a degree plays an increasingly important role in such a competitive society. Actually, there are a growing number people holding a master or doctor degree nowadays. Many large international companies only recruit candidates who have at least a bachelor’s degree. For instance, I saw a job advertisement recently. The company wanted to hire some office workers with at least a master degree in English and Japanese, or related certificate. So, it is no wonder that there are thousands of people attending university every year.
The final reason is about independence. Living far away from homes, students have to learn make their own decisions and learn how to get along with others. For example, my sister was spoiled girl who had never do housework before, but she learnt how to do laundry and cook after attending university. In addition, she now knows how to get along with people in a polite way and show respect to others.
In conclusion, people may attend university for many different reasons.
Personally speaking, I think people should always put obtaining knowledge in the first place.
