Many people have asserted that people should never lie. Although it would be easy take this statement at face value, the issue is a complex one.
Personally, there are two important reasons to disagree with this statement.
Firstly, there is a lie called white lie on earth. When you find it is hard to tell the truth the people who have poor psychology tolerance, a white lie is maybe the best way to express your kindness and avoid something embarrassed.
For example, one day my friend came to my home for dinner with her nephew, a five-year-old boy. After dinner, we watched television in the living room. At the same time, the little boy ran all over the room and broke my grandmother’s antique vase. The little boy burst into tear, and my friend seemed to feel embarrassed; he kept saying sorry.
My grandmother came out of the kitchen and kissed the little boy, said:“it was just a cheap vase, I have never like it. It is ok, don’t cry, my boy”
Although the antique vase was very expensive, the friendship between my friend and me is more valuable. So, a kind white lie is of great importance sometimes.
The second reason is personal security. Today’s society is complicated fulfilling with bad people and crime. However, children’s world is pure and innocent; they cannot judge bad guys by their friendly behavior or smiling face. I think it is very important to parents to teach their children to tell lie which may help them get out of danger. For example, if a child sitting alone in the garden, and a stranger approach and ask him“hey, are you playing here alone? Would you like to go to the Disney Island with me?”.
Under such circumstance, I think children should tell a lie to protect themselves, like“my parents are over there”or something like that.
In brief, these two reasons have influenced my points about lying. I don’t meant o suggest that my opinion is assailable. Some people may insist on lying is unacceptable and immoral.
Nevertheless, I still believe my position is stronger than theirs.
