Is it necessary to launch sex education?
Different people have different opinions on this issue. Some people who are against the proposal claim that it is too embarrassed to discuss such topics in the class. However, other people argue that sex education is of great importance because of the increasing number of sexual assaults and teen-age pregnancy.
I have also come to my own consideration.
As far as I am concerned, I think it is essential for the education department to bring sex education into the basic contents of education.
There are two main reasons contributing to my opinions as follows.

Firstly, unwanted pregnancies and induced abortions have a great negative impact on both physical and mental health of the adolescents. The increasing number of teen-age pregnancies has become a very worrying trend in China, and has aroused nationwide controversy in these five years. 2013 alone, China has a staggering approximately 13 million annual induced abortion, and teenagers who are under 18 years old accounted for more than half the total cases, according to a report which conducted by the National Health department.
The teenager’s pregnancy service institute conducted a telephone poll with 100,000 pregnant teenagers aged 15 to 19 lately.
10% girls surveyed said they have had two abortions while 5% have had more than three abortions. Besides, 3% have more than three abortions.
What was astonished is that more than 70% of the respondents had extremely calm attitude with abortion which is quite unusual for girls like their age. Only 20% said they were afraid of getting pregnant and expressed their fear of abortion.
Maternity experts said having unprotected sex could bring about a series of problems, such as pregnancy and transmitted diseases. Unwanted pregnancy means abortion which does a lot of harm to girl’s body, and frequent abortions can lead to infertility and increase in the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

Secondly, proper sex education could reduce the rate of sex assaults and related crimes.
With the rapid growth of Internet and entertainment industry, teenagers could access to a variety of information more easily than before.
However, convenient technology has also brought about some bad effects on teenagers. Two in five boys said the sex education they received was initially from the Internet.
Some experts indicated that teenagers are prone to imitating sceneries they encounter on the Internet, videos and games in adolescence. So, it could explain why there is a growing number of bullying, drug abuse, and sexual assaults have been reported frequently nowadays.
In conclusion, from what I have presented above, I think sex education plays a significant role in the development of teenagers. Without proper sex education, teenagers can easily lose their way and step into the path towards crime. Teenagers are the future of the world; therefore, sex education is worth promoting and thinking.
