Recently, students in my college have different opinions on the project about whether we should keep animals in zoos. As far as I am concerned, I prefer the idea that animals should be kept in zoos. There are a lot of reasons for my opinion and I will put them out in the following way.
First of all, with the rapid development of industry, our natural environment has been damaged and destroyed since last decades. Air pollution, water pollution and deforestation have brought a lot of harms to human and animals. Some people believe that animals were born to be free and should live naturally. But in such situation, how could animals live freely and safely in wild?
What’s more, the increasing price of illegal wildlife products has given rise to poaching and smuggling. Human nature is greedy. People in poor areas are ignorant of law or they don’t care about law; killing endangered animals just means a considerable extra revenue source for them.
Personally speaking, I think zoos can provide animals with a safe place where they don’t need to worry about foods and hunters. Besides, zoos are also a good place for people to learn about animals. Children who live in the cities, unlike those children come from villages; have no much chance to get in touch with natural lives. Therefore, zoos can also offer a nice place for people to learn more about natural lives and observe animals’ behavior.
In brief, given the factors I have just outlined, I think that keeping animals in zoos is a good idea.
