Hi, teachers, please help me correct my article if there are any mistakes. Thank you.
It is argued that advertising stimulates economies by increasing the sale of merchandize. However, from my point of view, I think that it is designed to control consumers’ behavior and to create unfair competitions which make the economy far less sustainable.
More often than not the success or failure of a company can be closely linked to the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns. For instance, XX, a Chinese online game corporation, whose performance have been only average until they altered their advertising strategies: they began choosing famous stars to present their services or products. The result turned out to be that young people who watched these advertisements were more likely to associate the online game company to the fashion, professional image of the celebrities, and sales of online game services as well as the company’s profits undoubtedly increased.
However, the economies success of any countries depends on the success of individual companies. Therefore, if companies are able to boost their profits through successful advertising then the country will benefit as well. Nevertheless, designing and launching successful advertising campaigns can cost companies a great deal of money. As a consequence, the big companies are easily able to have a competitive advantage over their financially weaker rivals by controlling consumer behavior in their favor. This ultimately means that a small number of very powerful companies will emerge at the expense of small companies, and in turn, the economy of the country is less sustainable.
In conclusion, from the opinions I have outlined above, I think advertising can lead to unethical practices by large companies which may affect the economic survival of a country in the long run.
