Hi, my name is Monika and I apply Erasmus Program. As I find my English weak I would be greatful if someone could check if what I have written is understandable;] and to point out politely all mistakes...well, thank you in advance!
Dear Sir/Madam, I am hereby applying for admission to the Erasmus Exchange Program for spring semester 2013 in …. I am currently a student of VI semester at the … at the Faculty of Painting. In the following letter I would like to present my educational and artistic experience, reason why I intend to participate in the program and my objectives. First of all, I would like to give some background information about me. I was born 12 September 1990 in a Polish family in Warsaw and I had lived in a small town … until adolescence. Aptly I was provided then with many extracurricular activities by my parents, which gave me an opportunity to recognize and follow my interests. Thus I discovered the first one in painting classes and was constantly encouraged to engage in it by being awarded in childrens’ competitions. What is more, as a keen foreign languages’ learner I willingly spent my summer holidays abroad in language schools, what helped me not only build up my English, German and French skills, but also gave me confidence, openness and learned to be an attentive observer of the surrounding reality. In 2006 I moved back to Warsaw in order to attend an Art-class at Cervantes Secondary School. Subsequently, I was selected to take part in an international interdisciplinary program Crosspoints, which was completed by series of concerts and exhibitions in Halle, Plovdiv, Sochaczew and Brussels. The project put the strain on a dialog between cultures and art disciplines by creating a common inspiration for musicians, painters and dancers. Musical pieces of Chopin, Haendel, Lutoslawski and Vladigierov induced our imagination and served as a common starting point for the groups mentioned above. As a young person I was astounded by the interest our activity aroused. This experience confirmed me in my resolution of applying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In the first years I focused on developing traditional mimetic skills in drawing and painting. Then illustration and mural painting became my additional specializations. After one year I replaced the frescos with graphic techniques. In my works I aim at discovering my own visual language. I also try to be an observer of surrounding reality, to be sensible towards the frequently omitted phenomena such as faith, relationships, suffer and to see them as a value. I experiment mostly with traditional techniques as oils, etching, engraving and collage and I try to employ my discoveries to express my ideas and emotions in an unconventional and well-aimed way. Sometimes, regardless of my commitment, I try to keep a healthy distance from my works so I could still derive joy from my creation and share it with the recipient. During my studies I have readily participated in many student projects. Street poster workshops with …. ended with poster exhibition in …, reconstruction of parts of an art educational program from years 1918-1939 for the exhibition “Art everywhere” in …, organization and exhibition during Museums’ Night are the most important ones. I find those experiences valuable as they taught me to cooperate with other participants in organization of events and to fulfill particular artistic tasks in an individual way. I have decided to participate in academic exchange program because I see it as a great opportunity to experience a different culture and, therefore, to determine my own identity and broaden my mind. I have chosen to apply to the …. due to my fascination by the Nordic culture, its unique atmosphere and people. The special position of nature in your culture and its influence on your everyday life attracts me in particular. As I have already mentioned my passion for foreign languages, I am looking forward to starting Norwegian language classes. Personally, I have never visited Norway which even raises my curiosity. I simply would like to know more about you! During my stay I would like to confront myself with your culture, with the young art that is being created nowadays in the Academy, as well with the museums, history and nature. I am looking forward to responding to this experience in my works. What is more, my stay in Bergen would alleviate my curiosity about your academic educational system, your attitude towards art and a position of an artist in your country. Thank you for considering my application. I would be very pleased to be granted admission. Sincerely yours,
Thank you all for any help!
