Proof reading of Motivation Letter

Can somebody help in proof reading my Motivation Letter. It would be very generous of if you could help me make it better.

I am writing to apply for PhD post in XXX university under XXX program. Currently, I am working at XXX company in XXX Research Centre as a XXX.

My family has always been an inspiration to me in academics. My father was a key figure in nurturing my mathematics and it is because of him I always excelled at it. The same goes for my uncle who had an excellent approach for physics and was instrumental in fixating my interest in the subject. As a result, I graduated from twelfth grade with Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science (which essentially covered C++ programming) as major subjects scoring well in each of the respective subjects.

After completing my twelfth grade I opted to study engineering and subsequently graduated as Bachelor of Technology from XXX university in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. During my undergraduate, I got the opportunity to work as an intern in XXX company, a Government Electricity Distribution Company, for a period of one month in XXX city. During this ephemeral period, I got exposure of how Electrical Distribution Company works. I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to work on Transformer Monitoring panels in a substation where the task was to track down oil temperature relay wiring system and subsequently help the team working to replace the same. The training also involved understanding the SCADA concept applied in distribution network and its architecture involved. The training was instrumental in rousing my interest in Electrical Power System and as a result after completing my Bachelor degree, I decided to continue my studies by pursuing Master Degree in Electrical Power System from one of the oldest and eminent institutes of India, XXX college in 2010.

During my Master’s course, I did a mini project in First year which involved reviewing of the Electrical Power Consumption of the various Electrical Labs and identifying the sources which consumer more power than other rest of sources with an aim to reduce the overall consumption of Electrical Power. In second year of my master’s course I did another mini project which involved a comparative evaluation of various algorithms to compute Electrical Phasor Measurements which Discrete Fourier Transform, Fast Fourier Transform and Windowing Technique to 14- Bus System. The simulations were first run in ATP (Alternating Transient Program) and then the analysis and evaluation was performed in MATLAB.
The Major Project of my post graduate studies was to develop XXX which was an XXX institute project. The scope was to develop a Web based software which would use Google Maps to create a layout of Electrical Transmission Network on it. The idea was to allow the user to draw different Bus nodes and Transmission Line on to the XXX and would enable the user to enter the data of the same. This data would then be transferred to SQL database. The project was inter disciplinary as it involved the concepts and various high level and web application languages such as HTML, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL (Relational DataBase Concept). The XXX would empower the user to have UI friendly Layer which could perform Not only CRUD(Create Read Update and Delete) operation but would also allow the user to download the data, run steady state analysis and upload the result to the Network into the database. This project gave me an opportunity to widen my knowledge to different areas of Computer Sciences. Being an inter disciplinary project, this project taught me a valuable lesson that knowledge is not bounded to any Degree but by state of mind and the very fundamental of engineering is to find solution no matter how many obstacles come.

My introduction to the field of automobile engineering occurred when I got hired by a prestigious automotive company, XXX, in campus placement towards the end of my Post Graduation in 2012. It was then that my fascination with the automobile engineering began. I joined XXX as XXX and was given an opportunity to work in the Infotainment division of the passenger cars. During my tenure I worked on many intriguing projects which included XXX XXX Navigation system, design and development of various automotive applications, all being more or less at system level.

One of my earlier assignments was to develop XXX Navigation which would utilize the smartphone app to run navigation in the infotainment system of a vehicle. This project immensely helped me to understand various concurrencies and complexities involved in the development of an Infotainment feature. It was then I got experience of V-Cycle which involved design, development and validation of the Navigation. It also gave me an enriching experience of various aspects involved in Navigation like Manoeuvre mapping, Dead reckoning and system level handling.

The other assignment which I was given was to design and develop various applications in XXX which would work with cars. During this phase, my learning took another curve as I was introduced to other aspects of automotive engineering. It was during the designing of algorithms of the applications that I got to work with various CAN tools such as XXX Vehicle Tool Box etc. The task was to come up with various usecases for the applications and then design the algorithms for these usecases in MATLAB/Simulink. It involved the integration of XXX tools in MATLAB and then simulate the Vehicle data to validate the algorithms. During the course of this project I got to understand various aspects involved in the product development of automotive based XXX applications such as Algorithm design, XXX design and validation of the same.

It is a ubiquitous fact that Germany has been the forerunner of innovation in automobile engineering and it is for the same reason that I would like to apply for PhD position in your highly venerated and esteemed institute. The vastness of automotive domain has infused a new zeal of inquisitiveness to learn more on the subject and at some point in my life I wish to spread this knowledge in my country as this happens to be budding field which is yet to blossom in my country.
