Summer School of Architecture in Bac 2010
Bac fortress suburb: sustainable development and environmental conservation with the involvement of local community
Summer School of Architecture is a form of non-formal education of students of architecture with popularizing mission projects dealing with cultural heritage, especially its architectural heritage and revitalization. Program of the School is focused on real needs of local communities and local government, their plans relating to heritage and options for implementing it, especially the unique architectural and cultural values and characteristics of the environment itself.
Location to be dealt with in the School is the street Bac fortress, which is a protected cultural monument of great significance as part of the environmental ambient belonging to the fortress of Bac. The highest value of the suburb lies in the fact that objects still serve its original purpose - housing. Objects in the suburb are individual housing facilities, which belong to the type of traditional home of Vojvodina earthen materials (brick, adobe). Subject site will be processed through a program whose main feature consists of three programming topics, which are perceived as dominant in the field and overlap each other.
1st PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND TRAINING OF STUDENTS
- Planning and implementation of projects for protection of cultural heritage.
The idea is that the summer school participants, through various programs (trainings, workshops, brain-storming) test possible situations in the field and to students, future professionals, opportunities present to overcome the problems that arise in everyday practice. The experts of different profiles and engagement, and peer educators, will have a duty to show the young fellow mechanisms work within project teams, reference lists of literature and computer tools, and to present an international network for exchanging data. Also, the aim is to work on sensibilisation future professionals for the user space that they shape - the project development programs at its center will have a direct user space.
2nd SUSTAINABILITY
- Traditional materials and bioclimatic architecture.
The process of industrialization after World War II interrupted the continuity of the construction of buildings for housing in the traditional techniques of construction - wood, charge, adobe, stone. Also, lost the experience gained building facilities and the potential use of micro-environment: a geographical and physical resources, climate-morphological conditions, which were more energy efficient than buildings created using modern construction techniques and industrial materials. The aim of the reactivation of these ways of building facilities and modernized their use in today's conditions in order to prevent incompetent intervention performed on objects, and which undermine the value of the whole monument.
3rd PARTICIPATORY PLANNING
- Application in terms of protection of cultural heritage.
Set in the urban planning law implies the active involvement of the public (especially professional and general public) at the local level. This area is very important for the smooth daily operation of the local community and is a source of many problems (wild lots and construction, irrational spending of funds, advertizing is often very rigid and confusing even for the experts, not to mention public).Particularly vulnerable buildings and units which are protected as cultural monuments, as citizens of protection often perceived as an attack and limit their own freedom. Strategic planning is a basic principle of promoting the partnership of different stakeholders who are part of the space is planned.
Students attending summer school will be placed in a realistic situation and respond to complex needs and requirements with which the profession faces every day in terms of heritage protection projects, in which many activities are integrated. Students have the task to make the program sustainable framework for the project of revitalization of cultural monuments, with the necessary participation of stakeholders: representatives of different segments of the profession, local communities and local authorities.
