Pronunciation [z]

I've always thought that the location of the tongue is lower teeth when making a sound z.

But, I learnt from phonetics that z sound is fricative and the tongue is located in between the upper teeth and the palate(perhaps).

After knowing it, I tried to change my habit as I have pronounced the z sound wrongly. But it's very awkward to locate my teeth toward top upper teeth.

Q1) Is it right what I said?

Q2) Do you put your tougue on the upper teeth when pronouncing z in zoo, zebra, and so on?

No. The tongue is higher than the upper teeth and does not touch anything. You need to leave room for the air to escape. Don't try to touch your tongue to your upper teeth while saying z. It won't work!
