Pronunciation of W

I am hoping for some tips or tricks here. I am a native speaker of english helping a not-native speaker to improve their pronunciation.
For the life of me I can't get them to consistently pronounce w correctly in the word "would"
The combination of the "w" sound with the long "oo" sound (forgive my ignorance of proper descriptions) results in a word that could best be described as "ood".
I have attempted to get them to purse their lips at the beginning of the word to get the right pronunciation, but that doesn't seem to work well enough.
Any recommendations or help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

just get them to pronounce, "Wa" that's the only logical way I can think of.
