Pronunciation of the word 'Directory'

Why is the word Directory as 'der-rec-tory' , according to the audio on this website http://www.bartleby.com/61/ . However, it has d-rkt-r, d- as the pronunication key. Exactly what is going on here? I thought the word would be pronounced as 'die-rec-toree'.

Please help!

Hi, either Dih-REC-tur-ee or Die-REC-tur-ee. (ih is a reduced vowel like in "did", more or less). I use the first, since I also say "Dih-REC-shun" instead of "Die-REC-shun"...
