Pronunciation of the unvoiced sound.
Hi.there
When pronouncing the word 'school' .In our country ,we were taught to produce the sound like 1)
1) sgu:l because the 's' sound is in the front of 'k' sound, so 'sku:l' become 'sgu:l'
that is to say,the unvoiced sound 'K' pronounces voiced sound 'g'.
2) Another opinion ,which I 'm very much supportive ,is the 'k' still pronounces 'k','sku:l'.unvoiced.
But because the 's' is in front of it,when you produce the 'k' sound,you just don't push a lot of air out of your mouth. it makes other people think you are pronouncing 'g' ,but it actually is still a 'k' .not 'g', but it has a subtle difference with the 'normal k'.
So would you please tell me which one is correct or more acceptable to your ear.
