Greetings, Jean,

the definite article is the most common word in the language. Yet it is remarkable that the majority of native speakers are hardly aware that it is pronounced /ð?/ before a word beginning with a consonant (the tree /ð? tri?/) and as \ði\ before a word beginning with a vowel (the adverb /ði 'æd,v??b/) and /ði?/ when stressed.
