Pronunciation of purposes

Hi

I want to know how the underlined part should be pronounced.

Purposes /sis/ [please ignore the dot over the i]

Purposes /zis/ [please ignore the dot over the i]

I ask this because many people in my country mispronounce houses -- I mean, they say /sis/

Thanks,

Tom

In "purposes", the first "s" is a soft "s" and the second "s" is a "z" sound. In "houses", they are both "z" sound. The value of the vowel is debatable or variable.
