Pronunciation of Homer

Hello, please tell me how to correctly pronounce name of Homer (poet, author of Iliad and Odyssesy)? It it "houmr" - as in The Simpsons? Emotion: smile

Yep, that pronunciation is widely accepted. I'm sure it was pronounced slightly differently in it's original tongue though..

I always learned the stress to be on the 2nd syllable: [ho'mer].
Not for Homer Simpson though, which is ['heumer].
