adult has two pronunciations

1. &-d< (first syllable stressed)

2. a-d< (second syllable stressed)

Something's wrong here. &-d< has the stress on the second syllable, and a-d< has the stress on the first syllable.

That said, I always use &-d< with stress on the second syllable. I never use any form with the stress on the first syllable. And this is the pronunciation used almost

I had this feeling that &-d< is almost always used in a more or less sexual way, like wanwo suggested. but if you say in your region its different, i guess i can´t make a rule of it.

Wow -- can we use the ampersand to indicate the schwa? I never knew that!

By the way -- I would almost always use the version with the stress on the second syllable. (The only reason I can envision putting the stress on the first syllable is if that would eliminate confusion from nearby sounds -- for example, if I said "He's a dull adult" and I was not understood the first time.)

Before living in MN, USA, I used the word adult with the stress on the first syllable, but then realized they say adult with the stress on the first syllable and I satarted saying like this.
