Pronouns VS Adjectives

This/these, that/those, I understand them being pronouns, but how are they also adjectives, it doesn’t make any sense to me for them to be adjectives as well!

Let's consider the word 'this'.



A: Which car do you like best?

B: The red car.

Here, the adjective 'red' identifies the car B is talking about.

Clive's argument makes sense. Anyway, grammatical classification is what a grammarian wants it to be. There are several classifications for words and structures. Not everybody agrees with everybody. I remember reading a grammar book which didn't call relative clauses relative clauses in the 1960s. I forget what they were called in that book.
